FAQs
Q: How accurate is the system. I have heard that the tilt technology is not as advanced as accelerometers.
A: We played with the accelerometer technology years ago and realized it wasn't good enough to replace the tilt mechanism. Most importantly the tilt system has at least four times the battery life as one with an accelerometer and returns the same accuracy.
Q: There is a huge upfront cost.
A: ROI is typically 8-16 weeks. On a 24 month lease, ROI is week one or two each month
Q: The technology is new and untested?
A: The technology has been around for eight years and we have over 48,000 spouts worldwide and a system has NEVER been returned.
Q: Is there is an invasive installation process?
A: Installation is typically completed in 2-4 hours and requires running only 2-3 flat-satin wires and some minor WiFi networking… much like wiring surround sound in your home
Q: What about time investment to use yet ANOTHER system?
A: Daily or bi-daily use is reported by owners to average about 5-10 minutes.
Q: What about training?
A: Training is progressively done in 4-5 sessions of about 30 minutes each, and advances after each session so it is not overwhelming. It is done via webcam and telephone at the owners convenience.
Q: Don’t the bartenders hate this?
A: Bartenders are trained to recognize the ways that this helps them, including better recipe consistency and management. Better recipe consistency results in more ring-ups and more “natural” or authorized tips. Owners report that bartenders never complain about loss of unnatural tips because that would confirm that they were not ringing up drinks or stealing. There is also a much lower percentage of weak drinks that notoriously upset the patron. Bottom line is that this system is for the owner, not the bartenders.
Q: Don’t the patrons hate this?
A: Bartenders and owners are trained on sample responses to patron questions regarding the visible device (spout). The best response is the truth, “That is a sophisticated inventory monitoring system that works with a tilt sensor and a transmitter. Cool, huh?”
Q: Patron: “That device is ripping me off and giving me a weak drink!”
A: Bartender: “Actually, the device does not stop or alter the flow at all. It merely records the same pour count that I am doing in my head when I make your drink with a free-pour.”
Q: How will this prevent bartenders from pouring liquor before the spout is attached?
A: The spout has a trigger that goes on "off/on" with a bottle change and can be set as an alert. It expects 100% yield out of each bottle and will report exceptions.
Q: Isn’t this like a surveillance camera? You can’t watch them 24 hours a day so what is the point?
A: BarVision reports exceptions and alerts both on a monitor or via email or SMS that are set up using the owner’s preferences.
Q: This will not prevent a bartender from watering the bottle down. Example: they change bottles, pour some out to a friend, then water the bottle down to fake the yield.
A: Good catch… it will also not prevent this type of thief from stealing money or shrimp from the freezer. This is the type of bad employee or thief that you have arrested, not just fired. Good hiring practices and reference & background checks can help mitigate this risk.
